Age Limit and Relaxation
Age is calculated on 1 August 2026. Most posts have an upper limit of 30 years; CPWD posts and JE posts in the Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships have an upper limit of 32 years. The corresponding normal birth ranges are 2 August 1996–1 August 2008 and 2 August 1994–1 August 2008.

Only male candidates are eligible for Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organisation. BRO applicants must also meet the physical efficiency and medical standards in Annexure XVI.

Exam Pattern
Both papers are computer-based, objective multiple-choice examinations in Hindi and English. Eligible scribe users receive 2 hours 40 minutes instead of 2 hours.

Paper I has 0.25 negative marks for each wrong answer. Paper II has 1 negative mark for each wrong answer. Paper I is qualifying in nature and is used to shortlist candidates for Paper II. The minimum qualifying marks in each paper are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS, and 20% for all other categories.
Selection Process
- Take Paper I, the qualifying computer-based examination.
- SSC shortlists candidates category-wise for Paper II using normalized Paper I marks and the minimum qualifying rules.
- Shortlisted candidates take Paper II in their selected eligible technical subject.
- SSC prepares separate merit lists and makes selection or allocation using normalized Paper II marks plus post and department preferences.
- The allotted user department checks original documents and eligibility after the final result.
- BRO candidates must also pass the required physical efficiency and medical standards.
- Appointment follows only after the user department completes its checks and formalities.
